Your Smile is Crooked
exhibited in Tapir Gallery Berlin
When I was 13, a doctor traced my bottom lip with his pen and told me my smile was crooked. He suggested a series of surgeries to fix the “problem”. I declined, but spent the next several years trying to make my smile as small as possible. Other medical professionals have since spontaneously volunteered their opinions about my crooked mouth and I have learned to steel myself before seeing any new doctor. Last year I wrote a poem about these experiences. This past summer, I filmed it and the video was recently part of the Tapir gallery show in Berlin.
